The coffee zealots can flirt on their feet, challenge the system, roast, prepare and serve your selection to perfection in the midst of Origin’s organised chaos. Beyond professional charm and sincere attention, believing in what they do is core to their approach. Being part of Origin is not a job, its not even a career; its a way of life. Origin Coffee Roasting is a home, a school, and a working model of an ethical, sustainable business to everyone involved. The evangelists of artisan coffee admit to consciously fostering anarchy in the company. We need people who can stand up for what they believe in. They treat each other as equals (that’s equal measures of praise and ridicule), collectively captivate Origin’s clientele, and exchange professional expertise on an ongoing basis to ensure superior coffee.

The Coffee Hunters

Our green coffee sourcing partner is Mercanta, one of the world’s top suppliers of ethically sourced, relationship coffees. Established in 1996 by former commodity trader Stephen Hurst, Mercanta’s team of coffeehunters includes more international Cup of Excellence judges than any other single company (6). Mercanta now supplies discerning specialty coffee roasters in more than 30 countries worldwide who share a vision of quality where ethics is built-in, since the prices for the best beans are necessarily much higher than for common commodity grade coffee.

The Growers

Clearly, it all starts with the people who grow our coffees. We buy ethically-sourced coffees, traceable in most cases all the way back to the grower. We travel regularly to countries of Origin with the team from Mercanta to learn more about the people who produce our coffees, the unique conditions they live and work in, and to thank them for all the hard work that makes those extraordinary coffee experiences possible.

Origin Coffee Roasting is committed to sharing a portion of its profits with its growers, via projects directly on the farms or via projects of merit in countries of origin.
