MISSION

We are resolute in being recognised as The Artisan Roasters of Africa. Origin is committed to excellence and particularly African excellence. Our commitment led us to co-found the Speciality Coffee Association of Southern Africa (SCASA) and to join the East African Fine Coffee Association (EAFCA) as well as the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE). These organisations are dedicated to enhancing fine coffee in Africa and worldwide.

Since we opened our doors, we have been supporters of Cup of Excellence, the benchmark for selecting the best coffees from great origins worldwide. We were vocal in advocating the need to bring Cup of Excellence to Africa, which finally happened with Rwanda in 2008. We are proud to have bought 3 bags of Cup of Excellence Rwanda Lot #3.

And because we cant do without heroes, we were a driving force in launching the South African Barista Championships, a qualification round for the World Barista Championship (WBC). In the first year, Origin baristas took 1st, 3rd and 4th place and Origin barista Willem Pienaar went to Tokyo to represent South Africa for the first time. In 2008, Origin baristas took 1st,  4th and 5th. And in 2009, Origin took 3rd and 7th place.
